Emergency Equipment on a Private Jet
Does a Private Jet have the same medical and emergency equipment as the airline?
Do we treat a medical or emergency scenario the same way as per airline procedures?
The good news is that we manage maintenance and emergency procedure exactly the same way as the airline.
The emergency equipments might be slightly different (depends on the aircraft manufacture), but is not complicated at all.
There will be first aid oxygen to administer the gas in case of medical emergency, automatic-dropping emergency oxygen mask in case of decompression/depressurisation, life vests for a ditching, rafts (slide rafts for BBJ and ACJ), flash lights, fire extinguisher, smoke hood, crash axe, fire gloves, extension belts, infant seat belts, defibrillator, med-air, infant life vest, fire socks, first aid kit, Emergency Locator Transmitter, extra life vests and so forth.
In fact, you can find exactly the same equipment!
Just few things will be different in the way you use them, but the concept is exactly the same.
You might find a therapy oxygen outlet, rather than a portable oxygen bottle when you administer first aid.
In most of the Embraer (Brazilian manufacture) the oxygen masks above the seats do not everywhere include a second mask (infant). Therefore, you need to know where the second mask is included and properly seat your customers throughout the cabin.
Worry about memorising the location of the equipments? No problems!
Common sense is the master!
Cockpit looks the same as any airline.
There are coloured sections inside the First Aid Kit, for easy material finding. There’s also an extra kit (not sealed) for every-day-use.
Where can you most likely have a fire on board? The galley, obviously.
There will be a fire extinguisher in proximity of the galley, together with a smoke hood, because they must be used together.
Now, when it comes to emergency procedures, you can find some differences between Operators.
The guidelines are give by the authorities (EASA for Europe, FAA for USA, GCAA for Middle East, …)
The Operator can make them more restrictive, but they won’t ever be looser than the one issued by the jurisdiction.
Also, note that there are a lot of similarities between jets, to simplifying this matter.
This makes life much easier!
